Las Setas - the Mushrooms of Seville
|
Wednesday, October 30, 2019 Seville
After we finished our group tour of the Alcazar, we walked to the Metropol Parasol, better known as Las Setas de Seville (or “The Mushrooms”). It is a large wooden structure located at La Encarnacion square in the old quarter of Seville.

The true name is the Metropol Parasol |

The structures are made of pieces of wood |
The Metropol Parasol consists of six large wooden parasols that look like giant mushrooms and are 500 by 230 feet and 85 feet tall. It was constructed over some years and completed in 2011.
Apparently, its appearance, location, delays and cost overruns in construction
resulted in much public controversy. The final cost is reported to have totaled
more than 100 million euro. On the underground level I visited the Antiquarium, where Roman and Moorish remains discovered on site are displayed in a museum.
