Breakfast time is the best time!

Friday,  October  25, 2019                                                                Lisbon
A perfectly beautiful cafe au lait

I do really love breakfasts when I'm on vacation.  Take your time, smell the roses, sip the coffee and savor the pastries.

This little beauty is a pastel de nata --a famous Portuguese little custard pie with the flakiest of crusts

We woke  up at 8:30 and were motivated for breakfast at 9:30.  The breakfast room adjoins a garden terrace and was sunny and bright.  My café au lait was done in layers of milk and foam in a tall glass, looking like a lovely parfait.  They had fresh ripe papayas, mangos and watermelon, as well as an assortment of fresh squeezed juices, and the usual pastries, hot breakfast dishes and cheese and meat platters.  A great and leisurely start to the day.

So much to choose: Iberian ham, sautéed autumn mushrooms, puff potatoes, a cod fish pastry....

The always attractive displays of abundant choices

The fresh fruit was bountiful - especially the ripe mangoes and papaya.

We took a little stroll around the terraces after breakfast.  The terraces all face south and have a beautiful view of the Tagus River - you can sit and watch the river traffic pass by.

A gigantic fig tree, imported from Indonesia, at least 6 stories high and about 150 years old

A view of our room's balcony from across the terrace - we're on the 4th floor above the garden
