We returned to the Hotel Lapa Palace from the Maritime Museums somewhat past noon. As we have a late checkout at 2 PM, we had time to walk around the gardens of the palace and explore.

The serene lounge/bar area, location of our dinner and the piano player from last night |

High tea is served every afternoon - unfortunately we have to miss it on this trip |
I was admiring three massive fig trees, which were imported from Indonesia and planted in the 1800s. This one is 6 stories tall. The terraces meander up and down between the floors and eventually lead down to a flat lawn area with a central swimming pool and a 4 story tile fountain

This fig tree is over 150 years old |

Terraces from upper balcony down to the outdoor swimming pool |
You can also access the outdoor swimming pool from the ground floor. To get there from inside the hotel, you must take the elevator down to the lowest level, and then walk through an exquisitely tiled meandering hallway to get to the outdoors.

Our photo as captured by the charming Fernando |
There is a 4 story tiled fountain that adds immense gravitas to the outdoor gardens, as well as a musical melody of water sounds.

A final walk through the lobby on our way to our taxi cab to travel to our new hotel |
|
We will miss this most beautiful location - hope to return again
