Different philosophies |
Tuesday, July 12 - Trip Day 13
A few days ago, Captain John had explained about the mast crews, and how they had to handle the various lines when they hoisted the sails. He made a comment that the way the crew finishes the lines is an opportunity to show their individual artistry. I have been fascinated by the lines and other ropes on this ship from day one. I already mentioned that each one has its own name, and the crew must remember the names for almost 200 lines.
Twenty or more years ago, I purchased a black and white photograph at an art fair. It was a photo of two ropes, side by side, on a dock. The rope on the left was curled into a perfect coil; the one on the right was a randomly jumbled pile. The title of the photograph was: "Different Philosophies." Great visual metaphor for life.
Below are just some of the ways those different philosophies were manifest on the Sea Cloud:
Funny face.... |
Hogwarts sorting hat.... |
Aren't they beautiful, all lined up? |
Love the ombre color shading... |
Hello again |
Kinda like me and Michael - definitely different philosophies! Makes life interesting! |
