Amsterdam's Museum Center Features Gardens and Green Space

Beautiful facade of the Rijksmuseum

Today is our last full day in the Netherlands.  We had a day stolen from the beginning of our trip because of a cancelled plane flight, and missed our reservations for Amsterdam's world class museums.  We were glad to be able to visit them today.

Timed reservations are required at both the Rijks Museum and the Van Gogh Museum, so we booked a time at the Rijks Museum at 9:30 AM and at 1:30 PM for the Van Gogh.  We also have a reservation for lunch at the Rijks Restaurant.  We took a taxi to Amsterdam from our hotel in Lisse.  It was a bit of a splurge, but our ticket times were tight and we would have had to do multiple transfers on either public bus or train.

Sunday morning entrance to the Rijksmuseum from the museum campus; not very crowded

We arrived at the Museum before our entrance time, and noticed an attractive garden area off to the right of the main entrance.  It was a thoughtfully designed green oasis, with lots of formal flower beds trimmed in boxwood, along with sculptures and and a dancing water fountain.

Michael grabbed an espresso from the nearby coffee shop, and we enjoyed relaxing here until we were able to enter the museum.

A good triple espresso will always bring a smile
