Mostar's old town shopping area - glad to have tourists return after Covid! |
Saturday, July 2 - Trip Day 3
It was almost noon when our guide Boris parked the car and we walked into the old town of Mostar. It was hot - more than 100 degrees! The streets in the old city area are paved with large, well polished cobblestones - making it difficult to walk in my Rothy's. There are many artisan and souvenir stands - hammered and decorated copper, textiles, leatherwork were all prominent, along with decorative artists and painters.
Interesting architectural features included stone roofs, oriental shaped windows, a number of minarets - with 7 active mosques still remaining in the city. The vendors were all smiles and engaging - happy to see the tourists beginning to return.

My earrings came from this shop |
I bought a pair of silver and enamel earrings from a jewelry shop. And two interesting hammered copper pendants from an artisan that was a 5th generation copper worker. His shop was filled with interesting copper scenes. And a bought some lavendar and sweets from the Divers House to support their work. |
