Easter Island sunrise with our National Geographic photographer

The advantage of being on a trip with National Geographic is the number of experts that travel with us.  Today, we were up at 6 to make the 6:30 bus to Ahu Tongariki with Jay Dickman for a sunrise photo shoot of the moai.

The morning light created beautiful colors on the cliffs and craters and moai.  A little squall of rain moved in, showing as mist on the coast.

In addition to the 12 of us from our tour, there were about 50 other people who had the same idea and were there with cameras ready.  The hotel brought breakfast out for us (!) to the site, which they set out on a blanket with fruit, muffins, coffee and ham and cheese sandwiches.  Magical morning.
