Kangaroos, cassaways, koalas and friends

[February 1]

Australian Rainforest Wildlife Habitat nature preserve:  Kangaroos, cassaways and friends.

On Sunday morning, we toured the Rainforest Wildlife Habitat Nature Preserve in Port Douglas and then traveled to the airport to leave for Cambodia.  We spent an hour there – had a guide named Murray, who took us through the bird habitat – we saw huge cassaways and storks and parrots and cockatoos and owls.  We also saw koalas and wallabys.   Unfortunately, we didn’t see the kangaroos or crocodiles.  So our group had a little revolt at the end, essentially abandoning Murray and traveling up the down staircase to see the animals we didn't want to miss.

Kookaberra

This cassaway is 6 foot tall.  Note the giant middle toe and claw.

When this bird kicks with it's feet, it can eviscerate an animal (or a person!)

Two female (red) and a male (green) macaw parrots

Sooty owl.  I can only imagine the night vision with those eyes.
