Scenes from Chengdu, China - home of Pandas and iPads

[Tuesday, February 2]

We arrived in Chengdu airport in the Sichuan provence of China and boarded busses to visit the Panda research center and then headed to our hotel - the Chengdu Shangri La.  It's blessedly cool here compared with the 90 degree temps in Australia - in the low 50s.  It's nice to be wearing a down vest.

Our guide for the day is Cassie.  She told us that Chengdu is the 4th largest city in China with 14 million people.  They make 80% of the iPads in this provence.  Chengdu is known as the Brocade City, the Hibiscus City and the Relaxing (or lazy) City.  She says the people here love to drink green tea and play mah jongg.

We were met at the hotel by a panda (or at least a Disney version of one).  Our room is on the 16th floor with a great view overlooking the Jin Jiang River and the Jiu Yan bridge.
