While snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, we saw three giant clams. As long as they weren't aware of your presence, they were wide open with water moving freely through their 2 valves. However, when your shadow passed over them, they "clammed up" by pulling in their podia and closing. Very beautiful to watch.
