THE best hotel ever - the Oberoi Udaivilas

The balcony for our room suite, with semi-private pool - so wonderfully relaxing

Saturday,  March 03                                                                                     Udaipur

Yesterday we arrived in India and checked into our hotel, the Oberoi Udaivilas, after a boat ride across Lake Pichola.  Udaipur is known as the City of the Lakes and as the Venice of the East.  We were really pleased with our room selection and location.

The room has a large sitting area, as well as a bench window seat, a bathroom with a claw foot tub and a glass enclosed shower – everything marble.  When we arrived, there were roses in the vase, a present from NG on the bed (a miniature painting of a horse and rider) and 2 sets of Indian costumes for our gala party this evening.

We were up before sunrise today, in part due to the time change, and Mike took a morning swim while I explored the hotel a bit.
Facing East, the dawn light softly illuminates the infinity edge pool and Lake Pichola

Entry from our porch into the hotel suite - bougainvillea everywhere

Entry into the pool from our porch patio - the water is refreshingly cold, as the temps during the day reach 98!

Mike went swimming three times a day - great pool for laps

Walkway to the spa pool

A different wing of the hotel, near the spa, with semiprivate patios along another infinity pool

Off to breakfast this morning: watermelon, pineapple, kiwi, orange juices and kefir

Fruit selection was wonderful, especially the papaya

So many healthy choices

The weather was perfect for dining al fresco on the patio overlooking the lake

Back at our room's patio deck - I think it's the prettiest of all
