Back to the Future - the Villa Cicolina in Montepulciano

Wednesday, May 10, 2017 - Return to Villa Cicolina

Entrance (and reception) at the Villa Cicolina

We arrived at the Villa Cicolina around 3 PM, after our lunch stop, and we drove up to the reception area to check in.  We were greeted by Ahmed, who showed us to our suite – Il Pozzo – and brought us our suitcases.  We were provided with a lovely bottle of Prosecco, in honor of our return after 12 years.

Our suite - "Il Pozzo" (The Well)
Our sitting area

We strolled around to look at the grounds -  flowers everywhere, which our waiter said was the passion of the owners.  The estate produces their own olive oil and wine.  There are a few separate buildings, which can be rented, a pretty blue infinity pool that looks out to the hills and vineyards and a small chapel.

Flowers everywhere, including covering the restaurant building.  The well (Il Pozzo), on the left here, give our room it's name

We had dinner at the Villa's restaurant tonight. It's a 4 course prix fixe meal that starts with a seating at 8 PM.  There was a virtual crowd in the restaurant tonight – 6 tables and 14 persons.  The set dinner menu with with its 4 courses rotates every day.  We started with a vegetable and cheese strudel, then proceeded to a tasty lasagna with Tuscan ragu.  Our main course was sliced beefsteak grilled with a rub of rosemary and herbs.  Dessert was a warm molten chocolate cake with fresh cream, strawberries and wild berry coulis.  A wonderful way to finish the day.  I'm looking forward to exploring abbeys and hill towns tomorrow
