Saturday, May 13 – Checking in to Le Terre di Poreta

Entrance to reception at Le Terre di Poreta @ the Borgo della Marmotta
|
So, we
finally arrived at Le Terre di Poreta. It’s a lovely, refurbished farm hamlet
– another Borgo – which has been turned into an upscale small hotel with rooms, apartments, a restaurant and a spa. The reception staff, Maria and Serena, are incredibly helpful.

We
had been assigned a nice enough suite – L’arancia – but I was disappointed that
it only had a shower, not a tub, and looked out toward the back rather than the
mountains. We asked to see a
different room, and moved into La Noce, which suited us better. It has a living room, fireplace, small
kitchenette, nicely tiled bathroom with a tub and a spacious bedroom.

We had reservations at their restaurant for dinner at 7 :30. We were the second couple to arrive for a table. Inside the restaurant was pretty – but HOT – with a fire going in the fireplace, despite the fact that it reached 80 degrees today. We asked to eat outside, but our waiter really discouraged us. (« Outside » is a covered patio, also quite protected.) He warned us it would get too cold when the sun went down. But we gently insisted – and then the other couple moved out as well. In fact, as other couples came for their tables, everyone ended up out there.
We were welcomed with a glass of Prosecco. Our waiter, Max, was very pleasant. He’s from Montefalco and was excited to tell us that the Giro d’Italia will be in Montefalco on Monday. Clearly this is a big deal! Tonight I had an Amiatriciana pasta and the grilled, sliced beef steak with roasted potatoes. A great sagrantino wine from Montefalco was the perfect pairing.

We walked back to our La Noce apartment and tucked into bed to get ready for tomorrow.
