The littlest roads are the best

Saturday, May 13 – Heading to our new agriturismo

Planting crops -- just like I used to do when I worked on our neighbor's farm!

After our visit to Deruta, we were back on our way, using my phone’s GPS by 3 PM.  It said it would take 45 minutes to arrive at our agriturismo – Le Terre di Poreta. We  crossed the Umbrian valley, taking smaller and smaller roads, until we were down to one-tracks. Seriously, this GPS like smaller roads than even Michael prefers.  We saw hay bales, and tractors, and dogs and even some ladies planting crops riding a machine just like I used to do at DeVulder’s on the farm!  The farther along we went, the closer we approached the green mountains springing up from the valley, dotted with churches, convents and castles.

We finally arrived at Le Terre di Poreta.  As we approached it  we could see Spoleto and Terni  in the distance.  It’s a lovely, refurbished farm hamlet – another Borgo – which has been turned into an upscale small hotel with rooms, apartments, a restaurant and a spa.

Even the road is happy -- look at it's smiley face!
Glad to see the vineyard - lots of good Umbrian wines to sample

Approaching the Umbrian hills
Umbria is known as the "Green Hear of Italy"

Our destination - the town of Poreta - with it's castle up on the hill overlooking the town
