Fitzroy Farm - a Self-Sufficient Enterprise

Ewes and lambs at the Fitzroy Farm Settlement

Saturday, November 4 -  Fitzroy Farm Settlement

During our visit to the Fitzroy Farm Settlement, we learned about sheep farming and were treated to a mid-day smoko (tea break).  After our ample refreshments, we walked across the lawns to a barn and corral area.  We enjoyed visiting with their pets - including six miniature horses, as well as a number of retired sheep dogs.

Plastic green houses used for early garden produce

Next, we had a visit to their tunnel tubes (plastic green houses) where they are already growing carrots and potatoes (and early tomatoes are growing inside on the porch as well.)  Gilberto milks their dairy cows every day, and they make their own butter and farmers cheese,  He also butchers their beef cattle.  They very pretty self sufficient, as everything else that might be needed must be purchased and delivered periodically from Chile.

Smiley wind power!

Wonderful to meet these delightful hosts and spend the morning at Fitzroy Farm
