Have you seen George Clooney yet?

Villa La Gaeta

So, everyone on Facebook - seeing the pics from Lake Como - has been asking if we've seen George Clooney yet.  We all seem to know he has a villa here - Was I going to stop by? Did he invite me to lunch? Will I have tea with George and Amal?

Well, ironically, the map provided by the boat rental has his Villa plainly marked.  However, it was too far down the lake for us to cruise by.  We did see a number of beautiful and historic villas from the lake as we cruised around between Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, Tremezzo and Lenno.  If you want to see Georgo, you need to go to Laglio.

Villa La Gaeta was the setting for the 2006 James Bond movie, "Casino Royale".

La Gaeta was built in the 1920's and is now commonly called the James Bond Villa

Menaggio

Villa Carlotta - from the end of the 17th century with beautiful botanical gardens

The Grand Hotel Tremezzo - reminds me a bit of the fictional Grand Budapest Hotel

Tremezzo waterfront

The Villa Balbianello - now a musem, and a movie set for Casino Royale, Star Wars and A Month by the Lake

Grounds of the Villa Balbianello

Water access to the Villa Balbianello - a water taxi brings you here from Tremezzo

Villa Cassinella, the private estate of Sir Richard Branson of Virgin enterprises.

The boat rental guy said you can rent the Villa Cassinella for 125,000 euro a week.  Hmmm.

A villa on the Bellagio side - not sure of it's name

Villa Melzi in Bellagio

Bellagio boat and ferry dock

A nice lakeside lunch at La Punta Ristorante after our day on the lake

The temperatures are in the high 50's, so a nice bowl of minestrone was a welcome treat.
