Starting with their fresh baked bread and their estate wine, Rosso di Guardia, which I liked very much |
Sunday October 10, 2021
We ate our breakfasts and dinners at the Borgo while we stayed there. Breakfasts provide pastries, bread, meat, cheese, tomatos, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, blini pancakes, fresh juice, and probably a few other things I forgot. And you can order omelets or eggs cooked as you wish.
Typical breakfast starter, including the important caffe con latte (Espresso doppio for Michael) |
Good, but they didn't quite get the "eggs over easy" - we had to look up the Italian idiom, for future reference |
We chose to eat breakfasts in the "Medieval Kitchen", as there weren't any other guests in this room |
Our waiter told us they still use these fireplaces for cooking on occasion. They like to grill steaks over an open fire. |
The formal dining room, where we had our suppers. |
Soft pinks and creams, with green ivy hand stenciled on the ceiling and floor to ceiling windows. Very pretty. |
Our freshly baked breads included this cracker, made from the seeds of pepperocini, zucchini and leeks. |
Pumpkin ravioli covered with shaved black truffles |
Soup made from tiny, flavorful black lentils grown on their estate |
Lamb chops with mashed cauliflower, artichokes and pomegranate seeds |
Grilled sea bass with crisp fried black cabbage |
For dessert - Flowers of the Borgo |
Hazelnut cream and chocolate with creme caramel poured in grooves of the half wheel on the right |
Chef's surprise truffles and panforte |
And what's in here? |
Michael's favorite - after dinner espresso. For me, a flavorful digestivo, per favore. |
