We love driving in Italy. It's easy, the drivers are polite (no horns) and the autostrada is the best. And the best of the best is the rest stops along the Autostrade. Of course, you usually are primarily motivated by biological needs - and their restrooms are impeccible.
But you also have a coffee bar, and great food, savory and sweet, for takeout. Beats our USA fast food options hands down.
But wait! There's more! You can buy books, toys, reading glasses, hats. It's kinda like a mini Target, all right there on the side of the highway. If you're ever in Italy, I recommend the stops along the autostrade!
