Virtuoso displays in Murano's shop windows

Spectacular vases made from beautifully colored murrine (patterned glass rods)

Murano has lots to see and appreciate on a visit, but still, perhaps one of the main reasons is to come to the island is to discover a treasure that is only made in this special place.  I saw many treasures, and would have loved to bring them all home with me.

The chandeliers and decorative pieces are the most spectacular.   I also love the multicolored bowls, plates, frames and pendants made from murrine (patterned glass rods that are then sliced to reveal the pattern for the glass blowing).  The housewares were beautiful - many colorful and unusually shaped drinking glasses seem to be very popular.

And perhaps the most fun are  the comical and natural figures - whimsical and intriguing.

The housewares in this shop were stunning - simple and elegant - so thin and light.

An example of millifiore glass made from murrine discs - a technique lost for centuries and rediscovered in the 1800s.

A glass bustier and glass collar - would you be brave enough to wear it?

The ladies in this orchestra are all less than 2 inches tall.

A modern and elegant chess set.

We enjoyed the collection of medical illustrations in glass.

So up to date -- a COVID virus being jabbed with a vaccine needle.

Getting ready for Halloween

And, of course, Venetian gondolieri and their beautiful boats.
