The lovely Hotel Belvedere - owned by five generations of women

Great start to the day - breakfast with a view

Wednesday                                                                October 13, 2021

We were running later than we expected.  Traffic was awful between the autostrada and Lecco.  We had a 7:30 dinner reservation at the Hotel Belvedere and weren't going to make it.  So I called to tell them we'd be late.  "Don't worry madame.  It's all OK.  We are here to take care of you."  And so they did.  We arrived and they took care of us and we had a great time staying here.  The perfect room with a view.

What's the first thing to do when traffic is a mess and you're running late?  Sit down and have a glass of Prosecco!

Our morning table for breakfasts at Hotel Belvedere - un bellisimo  posto.

My favorite Euro breakfast - especially the fresh tomatoes and cheese - and of course, the cappucino.

The Hotel Belvedere has 60 rooms with balconies or terraces.

Below is the description from the Hotel Belvedere website, which I found inspiring - I love that this is a women owned and managed business.  And based on our experience, they do it with excellence.

In 1880, one woman dreamt of a perfect lakeside retreat above the bustle of Bellagio.

Since then, five generations of mother and daughter have – with determination and love – perfected, protected and passed down this dream.

Their lives’ work is now my life: the Belvedere Hotel.

I wake to see my grandmother picking flowers in the garden to adorn the hotel. I hear the musical sound of my mother welcoming visitors as if they were family. In the grounds where I played as a child, I catch the scent of the herbs that will be gathered to flavour tonight’s home-cooked menu.

This is my world, my passion, and my family’s paradise.

Michael's favorite part about the hotel is their swimming pool - (barely) heated.

This guy was the only one in the pool for the three days we were there - temps were down to 40 degrees at night!

The best part of our room was this large and sunny terrace - what a place to relax and watch the world go by.

Meals at Hotel Belvedere are served in their La Terrazza Restaurant.  We greatly enjoyed the flavors and creativity of the meals. Lots of great fall flavors.  And, of course, good wine.

Carrot gnocchi with swordfish - delicious

A great local red -  we took the bottle back to our room to finish

An octopus "Chef's Surprise", as they call the complementary little extras

Risotto with caramelized pears and dusted with licorice powder

A carrot torte souffle for dessert, with orange semifredddo

Another "Chef's Surprise" at the end of the meal - mini pastries, each just one bite.

A view of the hotel on the hill from the water
